I have taught English to foreigners in Europe for many years and in general, students were immensely helped by the fact that I could underline the differences between their native language and English, being myself multilingual. Because of my experience, I can quickly understand why you are struggling to learn a given grammatical principle for instance, I can suggest tricks and techniques to remember phrasal verbs, idioms, vocabulary etc. and I never get tired to repeat and review.

I am a Master of Art History student at Hunter College and came to Giovanna with the problem of preparing for my mid-program foreign language exam in Italian. The exam required the accurate translation of a 500 word passage from an art historical text within one hour. The task was extremely daunting and stressful for me, but with Giovanna's help I successfully passed the exam. Within the first week of tutoring sessions Giovanna astutely calculated my skill level, goals, and time remaining until the exam to come up with the perfect course designed specifically for me. We met weekly over a three month period, and at every session Giovanna was on time, entirely focused, and prepared with practice material she had composed specifically for me. I had to pass a graduate level requirement within one semester. The requirement consisted of translating 500 words of an academic article into English. Although this was a daunting way to learning a language, Giovanna embraced the challenge. She provided me with skills, tools, and tips as to how to approach the exam. Within the first lesson she assessed which aspects of grammar were most crucial to the process. She did research and created worksheets in between lessons. I had never work one on one with a tutor and didn't know what to expect. The blessing was meeting Giovanna! Giovanna almost instantly contacted me after my putting in a request on WyzAnt. She was accessible and very flexible in scheduling our first lesson and subsequent lessons. Our first lesson was about what I felt my needs were and her appraisal of what level I was at in my fluency of Italian. From there she recommended several different books, one on grammar, one on verb conjugation and several different Italian story books some with audio CDs. Our lessons are broken down into sections. First a conversation in which Giovanna asks questions and we have a dialogue in Italian. Second, a section devoted to a new element of grammar and finally an extremely fun part where I read from one of the Italian story books helping in learning new vocabulary and pronunciation. Giovanna is extremely knowledgeable, patient and professional. I look forward to many more lessons and highly recommend her!

Giovanna takes the time to explain whatever I ask. If I forget something we already went over in a previous lesson, she is happy to explain it to me again. She is very patient which to me is one of the most important attributes for a tutor. Among many of her other attributes, she has a vast knowledge of the language and will answer all my questions.
